From Arenal's volcanic landscapes to Tamarindo's blue waves

More than ready to hit the jungle, it's hello, San José! Your plane lands, you pick up your hire car right at the airport and then drive to where you're staying. After safely parking your trusty new companion for the next few weeks, it's time to check in and put your feet up. You settle in in peace and quiet and soon find yourself dreaming of all the adventures to come. Tomorrow, you're off into tropical paradise!
Out of San José and off to adventure! As the city slowly disappears in your rear-view mirror, the surroundings grow greener and wilder with every mile. You drive past hillsides covered in coffee bushes and gorgeous mountain backdrops towards La Fortuna and feel the excitement welling up inside you. New chapter, new vibes – next stop: pure magic in nature! On top of the sunny energy that's so typical of this country, La Fortuna also has the kind of nature that you usually only see in documentaries and photo calendars: dense jungles, unique wildlife and thundering waterfalls that make your heart beat faster. But first, it's time to explore the town. You browse in the small shops, hunt for the most beautiful souvenirs and explore colourful market stalls. Then in the evening, you sit on your accommodation's terrace and listen to the chirping of the birds as the glowing red sunset fills the sky with its radiant splendour. A joyful tingling sensation spreads through your body, and you wonder about all the things tomorrow has in store.
Can't get enough of Costa Rica's unspoilt wilderness? Then La Fortuna is the just place for you! Grab your daypack and camera and set off in your hire car to Arenal National Park, where a whole world of colourful natural wonders awaits (optional, payable on site). Here, you have the choice between several hiking trails that wind their way around the mighty Arenal volcano. Enjoy the hike through the volcanic landscape and marvel at the region's unique vegetation. And when your legs get tired, just take a dip in one of the many hot springs surrounding the volcano (optional, payable on site). Sink into the steamy water and feel all your fatigue melt away as you listen to the sounds of the jungle and enjoy a moment you'll remember forever.
With your sunglasses on and your bags in the boot, you crank up your hire car early in the morning and enter the next destination into your sat nav. And if you're up for a little detour, the first thing you type is Llanos de Cortés Waterfall. From the car park, it's just a short walk to the rushing cascades, which pour into a wide plunge pool – perfect for a picnic with a stunning view or a dip in the cool water. Then it's time to keep moving; after all, you've still got several miles of roadtrippin' ahead of you. Bienvenido a Tamarindo! The small coastal town with its 1.5-mile beach right on the Pacific Ocean instantly has you shook. Right after you check in, you're already out the door, waltzing through the alleyways and past small boutiques and cafés. The sunsets here are an absolute highlight, so when you finish exploring, off you go to Playa Tamarindo. And if the weather's good as the sun dips into the sea, you can see the clouds reflected on the waves in a gorgeous orange-pink hue. Sounds beautiful, doesn't it?
