Today, you're taking a closer look at Stone Town. Make your way to Zanzibar's oldest neighbourhood on your own, and once you arrive, just let yourself drift and enjoy the vibe! If you want the best way to experience the authentic African lifestyle, then head for one of the bustling bazaars, such as Darajani Market. It's teeming with exotic spices, regional foods and colourful handicrafts. In the Forodhani Gardens, things are a little quieter. Stroll through the lovely green park and savour the delicious dishes at the street food stalls. Then spend the rest of the day on the picturesque beach. With sunshine galore, powdery sand between your toes and a shady spot under the palm leaves, you'll know you're in paradise! Sunset? A must! Dig your feet into the sand and watch the last rays of sun reflect on the water and bathe everything in golden light.
Want to delve deeper into the history of Stone Town? What are you waiting for? Start at the House of Wonders – an imposing palace right on the coast – and feel the mix of Arabic, African and European culture. Then it's on to the birthplace of Freddie Mercury – yep, Queen's legendary front man was born right here! Want to check out a hidden spot? Then head to the Old Fort Rooftop, where you can grab a nice cold drink and celebrate the city from above. Afterwards, wander the narrow alleyways, past ornately carved doors and little boutiques. And when you start feeling peckish, treat yourself to a legendary Zanzibar pizza at the Forodhani Night Market. Sweet, savoury – you decide! For the finale, head to the coast and bask in the warm breeze as you watch the sun slowly sink into the Indian Ocean. It's pure magic!
