Road trip in a hire car to stunning fjords, rock formations and beaches

The big day has finally arrived! As you sit in the plane, your excitement about what's ahead grows with every increase in altitude. Before long, the clouds part and you can see Oslo far beneath you. It looks like a miniature of a city at first, but then within a few minutes, you're right in the midst of it.
You're finally in Norway's capital – excitement definitely allowed! First, you head to your hotel to put away your bags and freshen up a little, then you can finally start exploring. How about a stroll through the Aker Brygge district to kick things off? Walking along the harbour promenade and enjoying the mix of angular industrial architecture and imposing new buildings is wonderful, especially when the sun's shining. Find a stylish restaurant and round off the evening there until everything glitters and sparkles in the glow of the lights.

The best way to start your day is with a stroll through the Frogner and Vigeland Park, one of the most famous sculpture parks in the world. Marvel at some of the most dazzling sculptures you've ever seen, then wander past Oslo City Hall – the place where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded – on your way to the Opera House right by the harbour. As soon as you stand in front of it, the building's futuristic architecture will invite you to interact with it. And climbing to the roof is a cinch, so head up and enjoy the view over the Oslo Fjord as you scope out what you want to see next. If you've always wanted to see the famous 'Scream' painting in person, then make a detour to the Munch Museum. Or, if you're a history buff, head to the Kon-Tiki Museum on the Bygdøy peninsula, where it's all about adventure (both optional, payable on site). Check out the original Kon-Tiki raft and the papyrus boat Ra II from Thor Heyerdahl, the intrepid researcher that made history with his daring expedition – 100% explorer vibes!
Goodbye, Oslo! The next adventure's just around the corner. You make your way to the airport on your own, and in no time at all, you're already on a plane. And where's it taking you? To the far north! Before you know it, you've landed in Tromsø. You pick up your hire car, your faithful companion for the next few days, directly at the airport and set off towards your accommodation.
You're met with surprisingly mild temperatures and golden sunshine no matter what time it is. Luckily, your trusty sunnies are at the ready! As you make your way to where you're staying, your excitement about Tromsø grows greater and greater until it finally appears before you, shining in the mystical glow of the midnight sun. And how you explore the Venice of the North is entirely up to you. How about a cable car ride up to Tromsø's mountain, Storsteinen (optional, payable on site)? Pack a flask of tea and enjoy the fantastic view of the city and the surrounding fjords from the top. It's spectacular!
God morgen! You're up and at 'em early again today. And it's no wonder – just thinking about your destination for the day makes you soon reach for the keys jingling happily in your pocket. Today's route takes you past snow-covered mountain peaks and shimmering dark blue fjords. When you fancy a little break, simply find a stretch of coastline to stop off at and, with a bit of luck, singing humpback whales and orcas hunting for fish will keep you company. Then continue on as the hilly landscape becomes more and more criss-crossed by water – a magical sight that you're bound to remember forever. Before you know it, you'll have reached your destination. Welcome to Narvik, a harbour town north of the Arctic Circle, spectacularly situated on a headland between two arms of the Ofotfjord. Settle in, take a deep breath and marvel at your surroundings. With mountains towering into the sky, glistening water and crisp air that's totally wild, this place is prime for a relaxing walk along the fjord or through the city, with the dramatic natural scenery always in view. In between, take a cosy break in a café and warm up with a coffee and a cinnamon bun as you soak up the Nordic mood.
