The big day is finally here! On the plane to the Adriatic, you can't think of anything but your upcoming adventure, and time literally flies by. When you land in Dubrovnik, you pick up your hire car and make your way to your accommodation. Check-in? Done! Suitcase? In the room! Time to get going.
Dubrovnik isn't called The Pearl of the Adriatic for nothing, and you're off to see for yourself. The city is just waiting to be explored from head to toe! The best way to start is with a stroll through the beautiful Old Town. Somehow, it looks strangely familiar to you. And no wonder, as it was the setting for series such as Game of Thrones! In the evening, you sit down in one of the many restaurants right by the water and indulge in traditional Croatian cuisine and watch the sun slowly set over the Adriatic. Dobar tek!
A must-do as you explore Dubrovnik is a walk along the 1.2-mile-long city wall (optional, payable on site). With the imposing city on one side and the Adriatic Sea glistening on the other, it's a fantastic way to stretch your legs. You begin at the Pile Gate, which is right at the main entrance to the city, and when you see the old fortifications, you can't help but feel the spirit of the past. Another item on your bucket list: Dubrovnik Cathedral and Sponza Palace. Between the many narrow alleyways, you feel like you're in a whole other world. And when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, you head just below the city walls to Buza Beach, a natural rocky shoreline with access to the crystal-clear sea. You take a dip, enjoy the fantastic view of the vast sea and some of the offshore islands and relax in total bliss!
Flip-flops on, towel in hand and off to the waves! If you've already ticked Dubrovnik's beaches off your list, then take a boat trip to Mljet – a real natural gem (optional, bookable on site). The island boasts a surprising amount of greenery and steep cliffs, offering a stark contrast to Dubrovnik's Mediterranean cityscape. And right at the port, you can hire a motor scooter and head north to the national park to check out its two huge saltwater lakes, which are perfect for canoeing (optional, payable on site). If you've had your fill of action, make your way to Saplunara Beach at the southern end of Mljet. It's one of the few sandy beaches in Croatia, as most of them are made of pebbles. Talk about a reason to sunbathe for a while!
Wave to The Jewel of the Adriatic in your rear-view mirror as you leave Dubrovnik and cross the border into Montenegro. Once you do, there's one detour you shouldn't miss: the Ostrog Monastery, which lies impressively nestled against a rock face and can only be reached via narrow winding roads. The wonderful view over the valley alone makes the famous pilgrimage site totally worth a visit! Afterwards, continue north and feel the excitement build with every mile you ride towards your destination.
Your cottage by Nevidio Canyon is ready and waiting for you, and when you arrive at the Eco Village, you feel as if time has stood still. The small stone houses set against the backdrop of unspoilt nature transport you a few centuries back in time, and you immediately get the feeling that this is the perfect place to finally escape the hustle and bustle. Make yourself comfortable or get back out and explore. Hear that splashing in the background? Try to discover the source, and after a short time you'll be surprised with a waterfall. This place is truly magical!
