Colourful Santiago, alleyways in Cusco and cable cars in La Paz
Santiago de Chile has so much more to offer! Its many neighbourhoods, also known as barrios, are incredibly diverse, and each one is unique. Be sure to make a detour to the Barrio Italia, where hidden courtyard cafés, chic boutiques and loads of antique shops have brought Italia right into Chile and transformed the area into truly trendy district. Stroll through its small alleyways today and you might even discover one of country's next star designers! No less worth seeing is the Barrio Lastarria, which boasts 20th century architecture that gives the neighbourhood a particularly elegant vibe. Browse the flea market stalls that line the narrow streets and try a pisco sour, Chile's sweet but wickedly delicious national drink, in the Chipe Libre bar. Last stop: La Vega Market. Get ready for countless aisles of fruit, vegetables, cheese and meat – there's nothing you can't buy here!
'Adiós, Santiago!' With wanderlust at your side, the trip to the airport is a breeze. Next stop: north! Once you've touched down in Calama, you hop on the shuttle and zoom off to San Pedro de Atacama in just under two hours. Now your desert adventure can really begin! Ruddy browns, dusty expanses, volcanoes, geysers, salt lakes, lagoons and spectacular lunar landscapes – compared to the last few days, what awaits you in the Atacama Desert is a true programme of contrasts. And as the driest desert in the world, it boasts quite the superlative! You arrive in San Pedro de Atacama, the sun dips beneath the horizon and now you're in for a real adventure! Beneath the most spectacular starry sky you've ever seen, your guide welcomes you and other adventurers outside the city in a place with very little light pollution. The night is pitch black, and the Milky Way above you is shining brighter and clearer than ever before! You might even spot planets and shooting stars.
