You're tingling with excitement. You've waited for this for so long, and now it's finally happening! Your suitcase is packed with all the essentials, and you're already wheeling it through the airport, your portal to the next adventure. Before you know it, the sound of your suitcase wheels is replaced by the sound of jet engines as your plane speeds off into the night sky. The countless stars twinkle around you with the promise that the trip ahead is going to be a great one. You lean back, close your eyes and have a little snooze.
The time has finally come. You're standing in Argentina's capital!
Once you get to where you're staying, there's not much time left to chill; you're just too curious about Buenos Aires! You start your urban adventure by exploring the Recoleta barrio and strolling past its Parisian-style townhouses. Stylish architecture and historical works of art hide behind every corner, but one snazzy building tops them all. You take a quick detour to El Ateneo Grand Splendid and find yourself in what's perhaps the most beautiful bookshop in the whole world: a former theatre with opulent floors now stacked with books upon books – heaven for any bookworm! Up next, you head to Floralis Genérica, the huge steel flower sculpture on the Plaza de las Naciones, and take your first selfie in front of the city's newest landmark. If you're lucky, you can catch the fascinating sight of its petals unfurling at sunrise or curling back up at sunset!
Tonight, it's all about the tango! Immerse yourself in Argentinian tango culture and be whisked away by the spirited music. Take a lesson and learn the most important steps and the cultural significance of this fiery dance and before you know it, you'll be tearing up the dance floor with hot moves as you dance like nobody's watching! But before you get started, how about an extensive stroll through the city? Visit the colourful La Boca district, where you'll find El Caminito, the neighbourhood's main street and ultimate highlight. Take in the unique sight of the houses’ facades as they shine in all the colours of the rainbow. On your way through the shopping street, you'll come across loads of small restaurants and street stalls inviting you to pop in for a quick snack. Try some empanadas and enjoy a pint of craft beer to get the energy you need to dance the night away!
If you haven't seen the obelisk on Avenida 9 de Julio yet, then go have a look! With its green 'BA' topiary, the city's landmark is simply iconic, so don't forget to take a selfie. Getting there via the Avenida is an adventure in and of itself, as the 16-lane road is one of the widest in the world. Be ready to wait at several traffic lights in order to cross the carriageway. If you're interested in art, then be sure to visit the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, where you can marvel at numerous paintings by South American artists as well as works by Van Gogh, Monet and Picasso. Best of all, admission is completely free! And when your stomach starts to rumble, we suggest taking advantage of our hot tip and making a stop at the Café Tortoni right on Avenida de Mayo. Follow the aroma of coffee and sweet churros and admire the oldest café in the city, which was built in 1858! Grab some snacks to take with you and enjoy a moment of peace and quiet in the city's green oasis: the Bosques de Palermo Park.
